    Hi.

I have been thinking about re-living those childhood cartoons I used to love and enjoy, and share them with my daughter

I would like to collect the ALL of the original episodes of:

Tom and Jerry all 114 episodes I think it is

    and

The looney toons cartoons all 601 episodes I think

Please could I get your brains and searching abilities in gear to help me find them all to buy on dvd format (if at all possible).

I really need help with this, as I beleive some of the releases on dvd at the moment have been cut.

Help me find them all :lease:

Thanks very much for any time and effort you may put in to this

I have had a look, but not much on where I can get them all.

I would like more findings, hence making this new thread that might help ask people to help me with s search and share any information we all find.

    Thanks

    tris

I will keep an eye on that middle link

    Be patient.

Warners are correcting the cut versions of the three cartoons on the Spotlight Collection.

This is a superb set otherwise and the definitive collection of these cartoons (once corrected).

This is the situation at the moment.

Jerry Beck (the consultant for the set) has stated that Warners will definitely be arranging a disc swap programme for people who have bought the set. He said it would take at least two months to set up and he said that at the end of November.

He also stated he did not know when corrected discs would make their way into the shops, and advised it would be quicker to buy the set as it is and send for the replacement.

However, no word yet as to whether Warner will replace discs from customers outside the USA. Haven't said they won't but haven't said they will.

Beck said he will post details as soon as he has official word from Warners.

The only ones worth bothering with are the 114 Hanna & Barbera shorts.

The rest range from poor to excrutiatingly awful.

    Hi,

Many of the orignal T&J 'toons were cut, censored or modified, to remove certain "suspect" racial overtones.

As a black person, however, they should have been left in, as the offending material wasn't actually ever racist in tone or nature. But, the imbeciles at Warner's in the USA, wanted to put profit over freedom of speech. The cartoons were never originally intended for young kids, as far as I know, but were meant to be seen by adults in cinemas.

The problem is also the fact that no kid is going to be bothered if the cartoons were cut or not, but adult DVD collectors would be! How many unedr-15's do you know (metaphorically speaking) who are going to want, de-facto, pristine, 100% uncut T&J cartoons on disc, in a giant box set, when they can pick-up VHS copies for half-the-price, or simply record them off of TV for nothing?!

As such, avoid buying any of the UK or US DVD sets or releases, for now, until the matter gets properly rectified.

I'd also recommend that you invest in the brilliant book "The Encyclopedia Of Animated Cartoons: 2nd Edition" by Jeff Lenburg. It's available from most decent quality book stores, although you will probably have to order it. It's a hardback title, and is about £25, although it does have over 500 pages, inclding some colour material too. Very good read, and very informative. Details can be found here!

So really going by todays laws, there will not really truely be any uncut versions, as no, no one under the age of 15 would be bothered by it really.

It is a shame that they have done thins, I dont think it will be rectified with us as a 'worn out' market as people would still buy it for their kids. I guess cut is better than none at all.

I did buy a set from ebay, which turned out to be boot, that was before I learned all about the asian bootleg dvds. They are all the earlier ones and uncut.

I prefer to have proper legit versions, so instead of the US spotlight collection 1+2 (which is 80 cartoons for around £27) I would prefer to get HMV exclusives for £30 for 159 shorts. After all it is mainly for me to sit down with my daughter to watch (honest:rolleyes: )

I think I will invest in that book, it will help remond me of all the old faves

There have been some uncut versions shown on one of the sky cartoon channels, both post-sooted tom's face (and voice), and original 'mamma's voice too. A real pleasure to catch these, but unfortunately most are not.

I alos hope warners swap the disks in the U.K, oherwise i will be calling on a mate who recently moved to the states.
