    Hi fellow posters
I have recently bought a new tv (52" sony LCD) and wanted a good surround system to go with it. Only problem is budget...max £500ish.
I have done a very quick and laughable sketch of my lounge layout and was wondering what sort of speakers/amp should i go for.
    Some points to consider:
    - I would like to connect Sky HD box and DVD player to the system, so would be requiring 2 inputs
    - Wouldn't mind an extra HDMI input (TV has 2 but both already being used and still PS3 to come)
    - Was considering a Yamaha YSP-1000 with seperate sub but not sure it would suit the layout of the room.

I have today and tomorrow to go and buy something so would appreciate ur comments. Also if you recommend something, please give pros and cons of system.

    Thanks

    Shak

I have seriously considered the YSP but not sure if it will be suitable because of the room layout. Would like to hear what current YSP owners have to say about this?
I have narrowed my choice down to either:
    - Sony STRDA1200 with Tannoy EFX5.1 (would appreciate comments on speaker placement) or
    - YSP 1000 with Tannoy EFX Sub
Haven't had a chance to hear what the YSP sounds like but to be honest would prefer to test in my own home, if possible.
    Any comments would help!

    I looked at the YSP.

One of the guys in the office showed me the documentation.

It all points to square or rectangle rooms with units sited perfectly at 45 degrees in corners or exactly in the center of the walls.

Given it bounces sound off walls this makes sense as the delay would be different.

    have a look at:-

    http://www.yamaha-uk.com/pdf/owner_manuals/YSP-800.pdf

    see page 11

    And page 59

    It put me off.....

    But i'm a noob anyway.....

    Hope this helps
