    This is my first post.

Could anyone give me advice on which dvd rewriter to buy i want it to be a dual layer and makes good quality backups.
I also need some advice on what software to use to copy straight from a dvd i already have to back it up and what software i will need to edit out ads that i have recorded.

    Thanks.

    Hoping someone replys.

    Hi :hiya:

A recent thread about which DVD writer seemed to settle on the NEC 3520, try searching on that to find the comments.

To rip DVDs the most widely used program is DVDShrink, it's free and can rip only the movie or whatever you select.

Not sure what you mean by "edit out the ads that I have recorded".

Now that I've figured out what media to use, my Sony DRU710 is pretty good. 16x +R, 12x -R, 4x +RW, 4x -RW and 2.4x DL as well as 48x CD, and it's only around £50.

Software wise I use Nero 6.6.0.3 for burns and DVD Shrink for backups. DVD Decrypter is the way to go IMHO for the DL burns though - Nero is known to have some issues with regard to the layer break (it doesn't put it where the original source break was, and some players are reported to have issues playing onward from the break). Nero Recode is apparently a good alternative to DVD Shrink too - I got it with my drive and am just playing around with it the moment.

komplett.co.uk and ebuyer both have it for under £60 mate. So far I am very happy with it, but as I said it is a litle fussy about media.
