Hello there! i need some help making up my mind on a projector, I don’t have much to spend only about ₤500. i have been offered a Philips bsure SV2 lcd projector, for this budget, hardly used only 45 hours on the timer. but its low brightness and very low contrast ratio worry me, would i be better off buying a screenplay 4805 for about the same money from ebay brand new..... or is there a better alternative ?

any help would be much appreciated. im only going to be using it to play xbox games and watching films.

    dom

The 4805 will be considerably better provided you don't suffer from DLP rainbows, and that's the one I would go for. It may not have as much brightness, but that's not necessarily a good thing for black level, especialy with LCD, and the contrast ratio is quite important for shadow detail.

I would also consider the Benq 5120 and 6100 as owners on this forum seem very pleased with them and they are in your price range too - try www.dabs.com for current prices or this forums own advertisers. For LCD the Epson TW10 looks good value too.

I would say that the benq 5120 is a must for that sort of budget I own one and its a top little PJ and if you buy from sava store now it is £499, If you keep in mind that when this PJ was released it was over a grand you could make a killing. if you can get your hands on a 4805 for that money it is the better option but if not go for the benq.

    Cheers Darko

    Hi Darko,

I'll be testing my 'new' temporary blackout screen tomorrow, just to get a general idea, and I'm hoping to have an anamorphic lens to test with it very soon. By the end of next week I'll probably have a good idea if it's all going to work or not, then I can think about dismantling the old screen, or perhaps use the remaining wood I have to build a frame for you anyway. :)

    Gary.

Could you point out where the 4805 for £500 is on ebay?

Most of them look £700 - £800 (which ain't shabby)

US one for £532 but add delivery and import taxes...

As I said If you can get your hands on a 4805 for that price good luck to you bud its deff a better pj than the 5120 and is less likley to produce the dreaded rainbow.

    Good luck with it

    Darko
