OK so my Sony KP-41S3U has given up the ghost. I guess it's probably not worth repairing and time for an upgrade anyway. I've just been made redundant and don't want to spend a fortune but my package wasn't bad so I don't mind paying a bit (up tp £1,000 or maybe £1200) if this is the right time to do so. I want a large screen size. I could probably manage with 32" but would like bigger if possible. Sky is my main source with the odd DVD. I have a surround system so picture is much more important than sound. So:

Is it worth paying out for something decent now or should I just get a budget 32" and upgrade when I get another job after new technology has reduced in price?
100khz/HD ready, are they essential/worth the extra?
CRT/Rear projection/LCD/Plasma - I'm not a technology snob, where is the best price/performance to be found?
    Where are the best deals?

Thanks for any help you can offer...... :lease:

For the money you have quoted how about a Toshiba 36" picture frame crt telly. Tellywise its a nice bit of kit, does progressive scan too.

Progressive scan sounds handy but I don't know what it does? Does it make much difference?

I see that they're going on Ebay for £730 delivered. Probably a decent choice. Is that the best option? How about the Panny Plasma in Richer Sounds for £999?

If you can spend £1200 and already have a sky box and 5.1 system then the panny PWD7 sounds perfect. Progressive scan, fantastic pq and you can get a stand or wall mount in that budget as well as the component or scart board.

It's not HD ready but seeing that it'll be a couple of years before HD gets going, a cracking buy.

Go on, I guarantee it'll cheer you up every time you look at it.

At the mo I'm considering both of these, or maybe the Samsung SP46L6HX

Dunno, I'll probably find something else I like the look of in a mo...

    CRT/LCD/Plasma/Rear Proj......which gives the best price/performance?
