Have around £8,000 for a full home cinema system including lcd/plasma, dvd player, amplifier/reveiver and speakers. Anyone got any suggestions as a starting point. CD is the priority though still want decent movie sound, so was thinking about Arcam...

    Simple...
    1) Speakers: B&W 804S or 803S
    2) Arcam AVR300 or AVP700+either P1000 or FMJ P35
    3) Arcam CD36 for CD
    4) Good interconnects and power cables/conditioners.

    Simple!

    Arcam DV79 £1000
    Arcam AV700 £1400
    Arcam P1000 £1600
    5 * PMC DB1+ £1600
    Panasonic PW7 with SCART/Componenet + Stand ~ £1600
    SVS PB12-Plus Subwoofer - £800

£8000 for a stonking system - the dealer will undoubtedly throw in all the cables with that £4k Arcam purchase!

Just my recommendation if starting from scratch!

if you state that CD is a priority for you, you have to ask yourself if you want a dedicated CD player or not. You could also go for the DV27A or DV29 which both have very good DVD playback and a good CD playback.

You have to determine your starting point and work from there. If HT is your thing then you will have a different point of choise then when you go for stereo with a HT touch.

Well, my HT setup is (prices in Euro):
I would suggest a Denon 2910 DVD (€ 699), a Hitachi PJ TX 100 with stunning picture(really cheap now € 1200) and use the DVI or HDMI exit and a BEAMAX 16:9 format screen (€279).

    For the sound I would suggest: Cambridge 640 AZUR (€ 600) and a Mission M Cube (€ 1000). Alternative: Final 80i ELS surround set. (www.finalsound.com) € 1500.

If you buy this you only need £ 2900 or £ 3400.
