My kids and I were talking about arcade games I used to love when I was there age and I remembred one that was towards the end of my 'arcade gaming whilst on holiday' years....but I cant remember the name of it.

It was a sit down enclosed cabinet and was a space battle game where you were in a space fighter with a hud display and you were flying in between huge space cruisers and other ships and planets. It was fantastic and I spent hours on it.

The closest that was around on home systems at the time was Starwing on the SNES. Starwing came out about a Year after I last saw the arcade game and had a very similar graphical syle to the ships and enviroments.

Can anyone help with the name of this arcade game as it is driving me potty trying to remember now.

No that wasn't it....the cabinet was the standard kind of sit in cabinets if I remember correctly ( like the ones for the Star Wars arcade game ).

We popped into the arcade at the Sheffield Centertainment the other night after a meal with freinds and had a go on the Out Run and Rambo arcade games for laugh. It was great fun but we all were so reluctant to dump pound coins into these things when we could just go home and go on the PS3 or 360 and play as long as we liked.

I think I know the one you mean, it was a bit like starfox on nintendo. They used to have a 8 player one in The Trocadero in London. You had a section of the massive screen which you had to defend along with the other players. The game was awesome.

Sounds like the one Razor. It was very like Starfox...in fact I remember being so excited when Starfoix was announced and the first screenshots were shown as it looked so much like this arcade game.

    Ahhh I remember it now.

Sorry for the wrong guess originally.

Was a good game but I was deffinitley more a Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat man at the time so most of my cash went elsewhere ;)

well if you ever fancy playing it again, and you have a ps3/ps2, the full arcade game is on tekken 5's disc.
play the game and look for the ship from starblade(Geosword) in the "Devil Within" mode, or unlock all characters. :smashin:

Not a problem...it's great looking back at all the ways I spent my youth on holiday at the coast :smashin:

Really? Wow! That's one I am going to be getting then. I imagine the game will have dated quite badly but I dont care as I just want to be able to show the kids it and let them play it too.

    Thanks for that

its not a conversion either, its the full arcade version, arcade graphics,so its not going to look like a poor comparison of what you did play, it will be what you played.
expect to be elated/disappointed * delete as applicable.

it might help if your in a dark room, with someone standing right behind you, breathing on your neck uncomfortably, flicking ciggy ash over you, and mumping about "he's next", as his credit is down..also, a cheap radio/tannoy,blaring some music thats hardly illegible also might do the trick. :rotfl::rotfl:

and if you cant be bothered to find it yourself, heres how :

    Star Blade in Arcade History

Go to the first room in Stage 4-2, there is a breakable wall underneath the higher ledge. Transform to Devil Jin and press L1+Square to blast at the wall.
There will be some tiles appear after the wall is destroyed. Jump over the tiles and move on to the next room. There will be a spaceship from Star Blade in the middle of the room. Collect it and continue to beat Stage 4 to unlock Star Blade.

This thread prompted me to look for Galaxian 3 for either mame or the PS1. The mame option doesnt seem like it exists as the game was vastly complex and I can only find 1 copy of the PS1 game for the UK and they want £45 for it. :(

I was hoping to play the PS1 game on my PS3. The hunt is on for a PS1 rom or a cheap 2nd hand UK PS1 disc. :)

Ha ha, sounds like your PS3 gets about as much use as mine does Razor;)

Well, I told my oldest lad the game was called Starblade and, this weekend, he downloaded the Starblade/Alpha PS1 rom.....and it is brilliant :D

Been playing it whenever I can ( allthough getting him to come off his gaming pc has been a struggle ) and I am loving it again. If I had the old controller from the arcade machine it would be perfect.

Thanks again for all the help everyone.

Yes but somehow they've managed to make it look really gay by uprating the graphics to make it look more High-Def which sucks beyond all reasoning :(

Streets of Rage 2 looks awful...

Sonic 2 is bearable I guess...

I have no idea why they felt the need to ruin the games...maybe they assume people wont buy it if isnt in ultra high def??
