Okay... I Bought A set of Eltax Hollywood Speakers a few months go to put surround sound on my TV. I have a Sherwood Amp... Which blew so I now Have a Panasonic SA HE 9. So I'm not the wealthiest of people. But It's only Hifi... Anyway... I'm now Wanting to build a set of FLoorstanders and Use my Holly Wood Floorstanders as Rear Speakers. My dad Can Build Really Decent Boxes for them, Out of Hardwood (Beech and Black Ash Patterns on them) , With MDF insides and Fill them with Sheeps wool. This is where I'm getting interested then...

I would Like the "Coolest" Floorstanders in the world. They're gonna be about 5' high with speakers for standing up and Sitting Down. It's probably quite pointless... I quite like the idea of Being able to decide what Height the sound is coming from with a switch to turn each "Set" on. So I can have both, or 1 on... So my questions are...

1.) How Pointless is this? [I know I only need one bass driver]

2.) Will Putting this switch in Degrade the sound quality a lot?

3.) WHAT DIMENSIONS Should they be If they're 5' high... (This is a big one)

Also, I Am going to put in a graphic display of the output on each of the peakers. I'm wondering if Anyone can think Of Other cool Gadgets to put on them. I'm limited to around 50 quid for gadgets, so nothing too expensive. My roommate at uni Suggested a variable crossover. Any other Ideas???

    Thanks Guy's.

Do a search for the Speaker Design Cookbook.

Its an American book and is very very good.

If I find mine i will post the isbn to make it easier to locate.

For the ultimate "cool" speakers you want to immerse those babies in liquid nitrogen.

That should get you pretty cool.

Hmmm, I can work out where to place a matching pair of tweeters, and the cabinet would also allow for front and rear ported bass Not as daft as it sounds :D
