Help wanted folks. I am, always have been and always will be a great fan of Laurel and Hardy. I wish to build a complete library of their work but am having trouble locating things at a reasonable cost, if at all. Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks.

Big big fan of the boys here as well and it does look like we have to pay a premium for quality.

However just to let people know good ole Beeb 2 are giving us all an early Christmas present and running the shorts, starting tomorrow at 10.50 with "Any Old Port" followed by "County Hospital".
Just checkout the DigiGuide link here and type in Laurel and Hardy for full listings :)

Try searching Blackstar - they have several L&H discs at £4.99 a pop.

Could be had for £1.99 a pop if the £3 off voucher is still usable. (search on this forum for the blackstar voucher details)

Excellent thanks for this,:smoke: they showed a lot of the shorts earlier this year about 3-5 months ago on BBC2, I got about 15 of them, my favourite is "dirty work" but so many more. They are absolute classics. Havent actually seen some of the ones Ive taped listed on DVD or Video:confused:

That's because they're not available. If you want them on DVD, best make your own (DigiTV card, DVD burner etc).

Have set my Panasonic DVD recorder on BBC2 for tomorrow. Not got any new leads though. Most of the cheaper DVD's are Stan or Ollie before they were teamed, still good but not what I want to collect first although I have several already. Any new finds please let me know, lots of views of this thread so I guess we are not alone in appreciating the boys great work. Thanks for the replies so far folks.

Why can't they do a box set? Don't they realise they are sitting on a goldmine. Still in a class of their own (apart from Rising Damp, Phoenix Nights and Alan Partridge).

Beware of the Blackstar Laurel & Hardy DVDs.

Yes,they feature Laurel & Hardy but not necessary in the same film as a double act!

I bought Vols 1 - 4 and returned 3 of them because of this.

If people realised what was used and indeed invented by the boys then maybe their superb talents would be recognised. Stan laurel was a comedy genius. Oliver Norvell Hardy was a supreme actor with an amazing affinity with Stan. I have not yet been a member of a sons of the desert 'tent' but guess I will be soon. All viewers here, if you love the boys work seek your local tent as I will soon.

The box set at Play is mostly Stan or Ollie separately before they were teamed together permanently by Hal Roach.

    2. Sons of the Desert, We Faw Down.
    3. Beau Hunks, Me and My Pal, Twice Two, Sugar Daddies, Crazy Like a Fox.
    4. Saps at Sea, The Live Ghost, Sailors Beware!
    5. A Chump at Oxford, From Soup to Nuts.
    6. Going Bye-Bye!, Them Thar Hills, Tit for Tat.
    7. Brats, Helpmates, Early to Bed.
    8. Block-Heads, Unaccustomed as We Are.
    9. Men O War, Any Old Port, Towed in a Hole, Why Girls Love Sailors.
    10. Their Purple Moment, County Hospital, One Good Turn, Double Whoopee.

Just had a look at the ones on dvdpacific anybody got any suggestions on which ones to get. I'd just like to have a couple of discs with good examples of thier work in my collection but am finding it tricky to work out what is worthwhile - probably get the £1.27 discs anyway.

Lets face it at £1.27 plus about 58p postage they are dirt cheap. If you don't like them you'll be able to sell them for more than you paid for sure.
