    Hi,

I have some relatively old Kef Coda speakers which seem to have stopped working.

I had a party recently and connected the Kefs up to my decks along with a pair of Jamo 120s. All was fine as volume rose until the Kefs started to crackle a bit with the bass. I reduced the volume so the did not distort and all seemed fine. Until today that is when i disonnected my decks and Jamos and tried to watch tv. The Kefs now only output via the tweeter and the larger (bass??) cone does not move or produce any sound.

    2 questions:

    a) Are the bass cones / drivers knackered?

    b) if so can the be repaired or is it a dustbin job?

Please help as telly / music with no bass is rubbish!

    thanks

    Mycool

My Coda 8's did this about 4 years ago. At that time I phoned Kef and they repaired them. It was only the bass drivers they replaced.

As the guarantee had run out I was surprised that I only had to pay to send them and there was no other charge.

I still have them as speakers in my spare room. Kef never told me what had gone wrong with them and it's never happened again.

    Where did you send them?

Did you just get the Kef service centre number off the website?

No I phoned a number on the instruction sheet.

I don't know about now though as I believe they were taken over a couple of years ago.

Even if the speakers are not under warranty you can probably replace the drivers (both, beacause they're mirror-imaged) I have a pair of Kef 105.2 's that i've never had to replace the drivers, but I know they still make them (and they're over 20 years old!). :D
