My LG Plasma MZ42PZ44 gave up the ghost two weeks ago and I can choose a replacement as part of my insurance plan.
I am looking at getting either the Hitachi 42PD7200 or the LG RZ42PY10X.

Does anyone know which is the better model?
I may have to wait for the Hitachi, but can get the LG in two weeks?

Will I see a difference compared to my previous plasma?

Any help or advice would be great!!!!! :lease:

    42pd7200 > LG

But prepare for the barrage suggesting Panasonic as the only option.....

I would go with the LG, when I saw the PY10 I was quite impressed, when I had a play with the 7200 I absolutely hated the thing.

Is there any reason why the insurance company have said you can only choose from those 2?

well, as far as I am concerned and after looking at many plasmas, the Pioneer PDP-435XDE was the way to go. Have a look at that or the new 436

I would go for the 7200. Nice plasma, looks good, good menus and fully HD compliant.

Is it not possible to go and see them both running in a shop? I think the LG is a great little screen, it is HD READY seems to have a fair contrast ratio (well when it gets dark things don't disappear into a fog anyway).

You've just got LG 'customer service' to contend with. Almost any plasma will look excellent with HD, though I, like Gizlaroc, prefer the 'look' of the LG picture over the Hitachi. How old was the previous LG when it gave up? Funny I was tipping the cardboard yesterday, the guys at the dump were chatty. I said, 'bet nobody has chucked one of these away yet' pointing to a box (empty of course). He said they had, but had been broken, as in smashed. He'd not seen any old ones yet. That goes along with my experience, few plasmas fail completely, but yours is the 2nd LG to go of forum members, there's another thread, about a PX11 being unrepairable. That puts me off LG as a brand, before we get to PQ, features or anything else.
