hi i currently have a SE t630 and am looking to treat myself to a new phone in the new year

this is what i am after -

a colour phone either clam shell or normal, has to be bluetooth, with video playback with at least 1 mega pixel camera and is possible to add more memory cards.

large enough screen to enjoy playing java games on.

I was looking at the SE s700i but the price is out of my range (i want the phone on pay as you go or buy the handset sim free)

my budget for the new phone is £250-£300

so could anybody please direct me to a decent phone, my poor old t630 needs a long deserved rest

    cheers

The obvious phone that matches everything you ask is Nokia 7610 - £289 simfree from The Order

Otherwise, I'd contemplate the Samsung D500 - no memory card slot, but has 80mb of memory on board, b/tooth, 1 Megapixel camera, kinda sexy looking too. The Order are dearer than Carphone Warehouse who are £319 as far as I remember. Link put here so you can look at the spec purely!

The Motorola V620 is cheap at £194 and does everything except is only a VGA camera (and no memory slot).

The K700i you mentioned doesn't have memory card support, but has got 40mb on board - so it makes the Samsung very attractive

Do you think it's worth getting a 3G device yet or waiting until the networks want to encourage people to migrate and offer attractive pricing to upgrade devices?

if you are wanting to go for a more advanced, pda/phone, im waiting to see what the nokia 7710 is going to be like, it has some really great features, like hadwriting recognition, and more fun stuff like a good camera which most phones seem to try and use as a selling point nowadays.

Iam going to wait and see how it is rated by the first few users of it though.

cheers guys for the help so far

regarding 3g i am tempted to get the Sony ericsson z1010 but i will wait a while just to see the consumer reaction to the phone and 3g service.

the nokia 7710 looks great so i may consider that

the phone i have my eye on is the sony ericsson S700i it mainly has everything i need from a phone but the swivel action to see the keypad seems a bit dodgy, if anyone has one of these could they please tell me a bit about it

    cheers :)

the s700i is nice but its big, heavy and not the best on stanby talk time battery power.the d500 is a 1.3 mega pixel and has 96mb of onboard non expandable memory and the screen isnt massive but is big for the phone.i own the d500 by the way and it does have its quirks but so far its a great little non symbian phone.and i dont think you could get the d500 sim free or payg for less than 350`ish anyway.your probably looking at k700i territory and while not having everything your after its in your price bracket and does most the stuff.btw www.amazon.co.uk have the k700i for 160 on orange.

if you do go for the s700, just be aware that the video is not full screen and is limited to about under 2 minutes (even on "unlimited").

also, the reception is terrible. nowhere near as good as the k700i.

cheers enigmacode but would i expand the video time by upgrading the sony memory stick upto a bigger size and is he quality of the video better then a k700i because my brother just got one on contract and its a very nice phone but i think the video quality is a bit naff.

    cheers :)

no, the amount of memory you have in total doesn't influence the max video time. just hope that SE change it with a software update (if they do, that is). you may also find that the video of the s700 is equally naff.
