HELP- green spot in middle of LG OLED

It’s a 65C7P purchased end of Jan 2018, so was a “courtesy” replacement arranged via Facebook.

Thanks for the info - I’d much rather have a panel replaced in-home than be without a TV for an indeterminate amount of time waiting on RA red tape. The tech did say it was mid-late Jan timeframe for backorder, will see what LG decides. While I love the oled, this seemingly widespread problem that may be just as likely to recur has me considering QLED replacement if they do end up RA’ing.

Just updating that my panel did arrive and was successfully replaced yesterday by tech.

When I asked about recurrence, he mentioned they had made some revisions, hopefully to reduce these issues? He said the component below (taken from avatuar99's pic) had some connections relocated, so definitely different from original.

fingers crossed!

Well that's interesting. Well I do notice that on the packing list for the replacement panel it says "EAJ64448301 Sub. for EAJ63950801". It could be the original part number for the panel on my B7A is a EAJ63950801. Unfortunately I never took pictures of any labels while my tv was disassembled to confirm. The replacement panel might just be remanufactured or refurbished but might be the exact same design but with a new part number, who knows, or it could be a true redesign as you have mentioned. I remember talking to the LG tech mentioning if it was possibly the section circled in red was the cause of the problem with burnin. I said if it was causing the panel to overheat. He really didn't say anything other than that's not what would cause it. I doubt he really knows anything technical about our tv's other than removing parts and replacing them with new parts. Lest not forget these LG tech's also repair washing machines, refrigerators and a whole host of other LG products. The people who would know for sure about the intricacies about these OLED tv's would be the people who actually designed them. My tech did mention that he had repaired the same tv (B7A) the same morning for the same burn-in problem. Lucky guy, I'm still waiting as of this reply for another replacement panel as they are on backordered again. And I have a huge box in my hallway with the first bent-up replacement panel. So far it has been a month already with no repair. I called LG to kind of complain nicely as I never received a single call from LG as my tech mentioned I would get a call. Nothing. Tech also said the bent-up panel would also be picked up. Nothing. Good thing I saved my tech's cell phone number right? Otherwise I would be in complete limbo. But I'm sure my tech doesn't appreciate me communicating with him directly via phone as it's not his problem. And LG'S reps know much less than my tech about the repair status other than what they can see on their screens. LG really does need to do a better job with communication seriously. But I would say though I appreciate and I'm glad LG is helping me seeing that I am past the 1 year warranty. It's just their communication that is the problem and obviously also the 65 pound bent-up panel they sent me without checking first. Will wait and will post back when my tv gets repaired.

I think we need a cooling solution, it can be a fan, but not on the backside, because it's cold there, maybe it has to be on the top. Maybe we can move the air inside the case.

I thought about cooling. I was thinking some kind of fan not at the top but at the bottom blowing hot air up not down as hot air floats up. One thing thing I have noticed is the heat on the screen while watching a movie film is way less than when watching say cartoons on youtube. I have noticed that with cartoons/animations the screen gets super hot. I do not know if heat is what ruins these tv’s. I can tell you for sure my kids watched allot of cartoons/animations on our B7A and the amount of time the tv spent on was more than 5 hours a day.

One thing is sure, too mich heat for a TV. You can burn you hand sometime, if you forget your TV on CNN or BBC. The red belt can harm you! Not normal at all!

If that is the case, why LG can't get the processing part outside the TV, separate it from the panel, just like W series. It can't be more expensive, a case near the TV, linked by some cables...

Reading this has me worried, should I be?
My oled is one of the first gen models (ec930v) 2015. Its been used on average around 6 hours a day since purchase

I'm curious about other manufacturers who ise LG panels, like Sony. They have other setup for the motherboard and the processor, normally it should get the same issues...

Hey people! We are all individuals with some brains and financial possibilities. Let's not bend-over and let LG fudge us.

Let's sue!
I am dead serious!

This is bad internal design, and LG should change all panels with this issue. No matter the warranty period.

The panel I had replaced is now starting to show the green again. 18 months and starting to go bad again. I wonder if LG has resolved this issue on the new OLEDs they are selling. Might be time to switch to a SONY or SAMSUNG.
Hi I have the same green spot / hue in the middle of the screen, my TV is a Loewe (they use LG panels) 55" purchased 2017 5 year warranty through tekzone , they are being a bit slow at the moment so I will update.

TV is an LG 55 inch about a year old. Recently I started seeing a green hue in the center of the screen- particularly when the picture had something orange or yellow on it (including faces). I have reset all picture settings, but it is still there on all picture modes. Before I call LG, wanted to see if anyone else has this issue or knows how I can correct. Thanks!
I have a LG 2017 LG 55 in with the same problem. Called LG who said the new screen would cost over £1000. I think this is a fault with the 2017 model but my TV is just over 2 years old and out of warranty. I love the tv but when I change it I'm going to Costco as they give a 5 years guarantee with no extra cost.
Same problem on my Oled 2017 model started having green patch middle of screen after 16 months. LG won't repair ext warranty SquareTrade won t repair. It a shame LG knows they have a big burn-in problem with these models but won't do anything about repairing unless 1 year or less. Make sure costco covers panel or burn-in issues. Don't thick I'ii buy LG again.

Burn-in LG may repair only if still under 1 year manufacturer warranty. My ext warranty company doesn't cover burn-in so I'm stuck with this lemon.

Sounds good to me !!!!

I've just registered here to report having the same problem. I googled for "LG TV gray blob" and found this thread. I first noticed it as a gray patch on pink skin tones.

After reading this thread I loaded up a yellow and then purple background - the defect is clear on them (it is not evident on a white background).

I'm about to contact LG via their website to see what can be done - the TV (OLED65C7P.AUS) was purchased in March 2018.

We Purchase a LOEWE bild 7 55" Jan/Feb 2017 . I'm not sure when we noticed the GREEN offender (green mark about the size of a palm print in the middle of the screen) but we have 5 year warranty and have been in contact with retailer. We purchased complete with rotating stand and media table/stand (£5400) best deal we could get. The rotating stand is ONLY compatible with the Loewe, one of the reasons we purchased as it turns to our viewing angle, the Loewe has extra electronics i.e. speakers/audio 1T dvr . Been offered a LG e9 as a replacement looked at the cost (£1799) no speakers no 1t dvr and not compatible to stand.
What would you do?
Having read the comments this is clearly a manufacturing fault and it appears to be in oled's around the time line of 2017.

Good luck. LG wouldn"t do anything for me because my set was 1 1/2 yrs old. My 4 year extended warranty company said they do not cover burn-in. So I'm stuck with defective set. USA.

Hi GLW the blob/Green hue is not "Burn in" This appears to be a manufacturing fault which comes to light after , what appears to be a year to 2 years of owners ship. I am thinking you use your tv as "Normal use" which should last more than 1-2 or even 3 years. If its an expensive set it might be worth getting in an expert?.

That’s my understanding; that this is not burn in of a residual image, but a non uniform patch of color loss.

LG have responded via email asking if I want to proceed with an OLED specialist review. I’ve just replied yes. I will update here what happens.

Mysteriously, I had the yellow-to-green splotching show up this past week, the morning after the OLED65C6P announced it would begin the "clear panel noise" process when I turned it off -- something it hadn't done on its own since the month I bought it 3-1/4 years ago.

VERY strangely, an earlier post ("johnnybe good" from 1/16/2019) said the exact same thing happened to his Sony (yes, Sony) 55" OLED the day after it announced "it was going to start a screen refresh and would take about an hour, so the next morning it started with this green hue in the middle of the screen which I cannot get rid of." Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LG manufactures OLED screens even for Sony.

So now I have center screen blotching on top of some cable guide burn-in (most visible in red and, especially, yellow with two bars, a "!" warning triangle and vertical dots). I didn't notice those for the first several months and am not sure if my cable box did it -- tho I've never seen that pattern of graphics -- or if the burn-in was embedded in the screen when I got it from iElectrica via eBay in the U.S. I got used to the bars and considered them subtle watermarks that weren't usually noticeably intrusive. The rest of the picture was so damn good I could deal with it.

But my niece's kids couldn't ignore SpongeBob being green this weekend (seriously) and I'm sure Bumblebee will look hideous when they watch their "Transformers." Oddly, though, for all its blotchy and burn-in faults, the picture still looks great 90 percent of the time. Fortunately, most shows and movies don't have massive bright yellows and reds in the center of the screen.

i have the same problem on a sony kd 55 oled tv which i bought in the black friday deals .and it started when i had a message come on the screen when i was powering it off at night saying it was going to start a screen refresh and would take about an hour .so the next morning it started with this green hue in the middle of the screen which i cannot get rid of

Check my post from today (1/5/2020). The exact same thing just happened with my LG OLED. I hope you got your situation taken care of. It may be too late for me.

I purchased an LG OLED Feb 2017. Noticed the green/blue spots Dec 2018. Finally found this forum and contacted LG via Facebook Messenger Jan 2020 at the recommendation of another poster. They were super nice helpful and constructive. They’ve sent a new panel and scheduled a technician to come to my house to replace it next week, all for free. So far so good! Happy for LG!

Where did you purchase your TV in 2017 and what kind of warranty do you have?
