    Hi.

I have tried countless tutorials, the ms help centre, i have phoned netgear and acer as well, and don't have a clue!

What i am trying to do is connect my laptop with a wireless ethernet to my other pc. My other pc is connected to my netgear dg834g router and the internet connection works fine.

However i can't figure out how to network the two computers and share files across them, it just won't work!

I have activated the wireless zero configuration, but it keeps turning itself off for no reason on my laptop. i have also made sure that the two pcs arent sharing the same name, and that they are connected to the same network, mshome, but i still can't view the other pc. i have selected allow windows to configure my wireless network settings, but have to keep switching it back on periodically because it just disappears for no reason.

i have tried mapping the network drive, i have the c: root drive of both pcs shared, they are both using win xp home, but i can't get the other pc to appear on my laptop.

Has anyone got any idea how i can get this to work? i have been trying since about 4pm yesterday and it is really driving me crazy!

    thanks

Are they both running XP and if so are they both up to date with patches from MS ? I used to have problems sharing stuff on PCs with the inbuilt XP firewall turned on before SP2 came out. Have you got another firewall running that could be stopping this working ? Also, when you go into My Network Places you could try clicking on "view network computers" down the left hand side to see if it will show the others on the network.
Does the laptop connect to the internet OK via the router ?

I reckon if you turn off your firewall it will be magically fixed ;)

1st of all can you ping the other PC?.
2nd, can you ping the netgear router?
    3rd, can you ping Google?
4th, are you running any firewalls?

Make sure you have MS file sharing and netbios installed on both too (through te network settings), also share at least one folder on each (although this shouldn't be needed on win xp).

It's already been sorted in the duplicate thread in General Chat.

    Yeah thanks guys

Never know which thread to post technical pc stuff in. Usually don't get a response in this area.

I know the feeling. I usually try Entertainment PCs first and then General Chat next - I've never considered PC Gaming.

Having been all high and might about duplicate posts ;) I'm wondering if a minidisc deck problem I've posted in the HiFi section would be better off in the General chat - so I may well do the same myself
