help: faulty lite-on lvw2005 dvd recorder

hi, my mum and dad just purchased the above.
While watching a dvd the screen went blue and a green band appeared.
it then locked itself with the disc in and won't do anything!
All it says is 'Hello' on the display.
Has anyone else had problems with this recorder?

they are returning it to the 'idealworld shopping channel!'


are there any other good alternative makes? around the £99 price?
