    Guys,

I'm in the market for a DVD writer. These two have caught my eye and have pretty good reviews. I will be mostly using it for burning home movies, wedding videos etc so will want them to be able to run on All if not Most standalone home players.

I thought for this sort of money, it makes more sense to go with a writer that supports both - & +!!!!!

Which shall I go for or any better recommendations????

    NEC ND1300A £105

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NEC-ND13SP

    Sony DRU-10A £140

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?SON-DWU10A

The Sony is OEM but the NEC is boxed with Pinnacle software.

    Thanks
    Stace

The NEC is being banded around as a good 'un.

There is a compatibility list for media at www.bigpockets.co.uk courtesy of another forum member elsewhere, (sorry forgotten who already:blush: ).

The Nec 1300 seems to have some compatibility problems with some disc look here how many will not use it here
An other DVD writer to consider is the Pioneer 106 OME or the A06 retail it will writ both DVD-R and DVD+R

Do a search for coments from Sony owners...support seems to be less than good and it may be picky about some types of media. Check out the situation regarding firmware updates.

I've had a look at different sites and they seem to think the NEC is pretty good.

    I'll probably buy this week.

Where's the best place to purchase media??? Is it worth upgrading the firmware on this drive???

    Thanks
    Stacy :D

Thanks for the info. Not sure what to make of it now!!!!

Why will these discs not play in that player????? Does it really matter with that amount of variety to choose from???

    I'm very very confused!

I would look at the prices of the blank disc that is compatible with the NEC and the disc that will burn on other machines.

I do not if you mean burn by play but there are nearly always some computability issues, but I can play a CD-RW in my DVD but not on my CD player. Also I think there are issues with some burners and the speed of the blank disc.
I also have a CD Rom that will play in my parents DVD player but not mine.
As you say all very confusing.

I have just found out something, I cannot erase a CD-RW and thus looks as though I will not be able to burn on the with my 106 as they are single speed burn disc. Something I never took into consideration.:(
