Help connecting Telewest to Sony projector

Can anyone help?

I am trying to connect my standard telewest digibox to my sony projector

The output from the digibox is scart and the input to the projector is s-video.

I have tried using a scart to s-video cable, but no picture or sound

The settings in the digibox for output are only composite or rgb.

There must be some way of connecting the two devices.

I dont want to go out and waste money on differing cables.

Do you know someone who might be able to help me

Cheers

What make and model of Sony pj is it? are there four BNC style connectors on it? I had a sharp pj like this and had to have a scart to four BNCs made up for it.

As far as I am aware, the standard Telewest Boxes output RGB and Composite Video via scart and not S-Video. I could be wrong but that is my understanding. Your Sony projector, if new and aimed at the home market, should have at least 1x composite (yellow socket), 1x S-video, 1x Component (Red, Green and Blue phono sockets). Composite would be much lower than s-video in quality. Ideally you want RGB from the scart. In order to get this you need a Scart RGB to Component RGB converter (they are similar but you still need to convert). QED make one.

Alternatively if you only have a VGA socket on the projector you can get Scart RGB to VGA cables - have a look on the net or in the back of magazines. I seem to remember them requiring mains supply though.

If you can give more specifics on connections, as the previous poster suggested, we can get a better idea of your options.

The projector is a Sony VPL-CX6

The inputs are S-video,video(yellow)composite,Audio jack,15 pin Dsub connector,Usb and memory stick.

The reason I bought the projector was for sport as I very rarely watch DVD's

Your help is much appreciated

I connect my Telewest box to my HTPC via with a Scart to S-Video connector from Maplins (one of the better quality ones) I would have thought you could do the same with your projector. Picture quality is not perfect but OK.

When I connect the two devices with scart to s-video cable I get nothing at all,I currently have my dvd player connected to the s-video input and it works great,so there seems to be nothin wrong with the s-video input

Which scart are you connecting the PJ to? I'm using the AV2/VCR on the Telewest box, not sure if TV/VCR scarts are different.
Also what model cable box is it?

Somebody told me that I may need a scart to s-video cable where you can switch the direction of the signal.Perhaps my cable is only oneway.

Can anybody clarify this for me.

I'm desperate for the footy and the golf on the big screen.

Before I was using the cable to connect my DVD player(s-video) to my television(scart)

Somebody out there must know

Cheers

The Telewest boxes do not do Svideo. They do RGB and composite. The lead you have will make no difference. The only compatible means of connection you have is composite. You will need a composite break out such as this between your normal scart lead and the tv. The yellow connection will feed your pj. The alternative is an RGB to svideo converter which will give superior pq.

I've been recommended by the lads at KEENE Electronics that I could connect my digibox to projector using their Syncblaster cable scart to 15 pin hd svga 1.5m.Cost £59.99

I have my Telewest box connected via a scart->s-video with L/R audio connected to my Hauppage PVR250 s-video input with an s-video cable and a L/R audio to 3.5mm jack plug cable.
I get pretty good recordings on it.
