    Set up as follows:

435xde plasma connected to sky+ (via RGBScart to the Pio Media Box).
Sony DAVSB500W Home Cinema DVD connected via RGBScart to the Pio Media Box.
Phono sound leads from sky+ to DAVSB500W for sky+ sound.

    Sky output set to RGB.

TV input set to RGB (shows input as RGB 625i).

    Is this a crap setup?

What can I do to improve it (changing the connections/settings? Scaler?, new DVD player?, new amp?, new speakers?)?

Any help for a complete thicko would help??!?!

    Cheers

Some things you could do. Get it calibrated professionally. Examples on my website.
    http://www.convergent-av.co.uk/calibration.html

You could add a scaler to do better processing then feed it's output on to the HDMI input of the media box. Scalers delay the video in comparison to the audio. Some scalers have built in audio delay's to compensate for this (possibly the ones that need this feature the most). However it's no use to you as you can't delay the sound from your DAVS and send it back to the DAVS for processing...so if you go scaler route you'll want one that is FAST at its processing. There are a fair few folk using Lumagens with XDE's and these have no audio delay capablities.

I'd look at getting a calibration and trying to have a demo of a scaler at the same time.

    Thanks Gordon.

I've had it calibrated, but would like a scaler demo.

Could you come demo a lumagen or similar to me next time you are in Bristol OR recommend someone who could.

    Cheers
