Help choosing the best TV - 50" + for under £800

Hi all, I am sorry to be one of many that ask a very similar question. I've trawled through the forum and not really found what I'm looking for.

Me and the better half have just got ourselves a new home (pending paperwork fingers crossed) - and it's much larger than where we currently are. So we've decided that a new TV is a must - the current 32" Samsung LCD is too small. We are looking at around 50" (will happily move a little smaller or bigger no problem).

Our budget is up to £800, but ideally around £600.

It will be used for Sky/Virgin HD - I watch football and motorbike racing. She watches anything that is crap.
I play PS3 - usually GT5 and Fifa, occasionally COD type games.
We also watch a lot of films, blu-ray and HiDef rips from an external HDD (my Samsung has a USB port for the HDD).
We aren't worried about it being 3D, a Smart TV etc.

From the list above I think we would be best going Plasma, would people agree?

What would people recommend with our budget in mind? It will be getting wall mounted too - if that affects things!?

Many thanks for your help - I'm looking at so many I just can't make a call on whats best!
