This thread really spawned off another one but thought it more appropriate to post here as my big decision is speakers.

    Which speakers ?

    Mission FS1-AV :
I like the look of the Mission FS1-AV but would it do justice to a :-
    Pioneer VSX-AX5i
    Pioneer DV-868AVi
    Pioneer 434HDE
(I'm also thinking about the Philips DVDR 755 but think this is only out in the states and haven't heard reviews of it)

    B&W VM1 :
From a post on another thread I've also been thinking about
B&W VM1 - but read in WhatHiFI "excellent, but newer rivals have eclipsed it"
    Which new rivals ?

    Infinity Oreus :
Did consider Infinity Oreus but other members have suggested that this would not balance the above system that well.

    Basically I'd like something
    a) that balances the above system well
    b) with thin stylish speakers (in particular front centre should have height < 12cm (maybe 13) and depth < 14cm (eg. like Mission FS1-AV)
[I know that sounds a bit particular but it needs to fit between my plasma and the top of the fireplace !)
    c) in the price range of £700 - £1000 (or maybe a tad over) including stands for speakers

    Any ideas ?

I'm afraid I haven't actually got it yet. I'm a newbie to this and so far only have the Pioneer 434HDE and Sky+ but am looking at getting the rest of the kit. Have pretty much decided on receiver (and probably dvd player) so just wanted to make sure my speakers balance well with my choice.

But from the spec and various reviews looks pretty good - I've heard there's a new version coming out maybe October but not sure I can wait till then !

Kef 5005 would be well worth a look if you can push the budget a bit :)

I'm looking at getting a setup almost identical to your proposed setup .

I ended up going for Kef 9000s for front 3 and 5001s for back 4.

You might be able to get the speaker price down a bit if you can get receiver and dvd at same time ;)

If you haven't purchased the PlasmaTV, DVD, Receiver etc have a look in the Power Buy section - we have an Interesting offer that may give you a little more budget elsewhere in the system :)

Not the long and thin options you were looking for but I'd consider the Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micro (budget allowing) as a good match with a VSX-AX5i.

The Micro's fit the bill size wise with ease - and for me are a better sounding speaker than the ones you've highlighted; and also do a great job as HiFi 'Stereo' speakers.

I also like supplying the Micro's as it gives our customers an opportunity to spend even more cash with us as you can 'grow' your speaker system to include the more upmarket A'Diva and Due if and when you feel like an upgrade that will 'voice' with the current set up.

    Best regards

    Joe

PS Are you going 5:1 or 7:1!!!

    Will be 5.1.
Not that keen on the look of the Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micro :(

And as I'm a newbie - how do I get to the "Power Buy" section

Am getting more & more keen on the Kef 5005 (which I've just discovered) but can't find any official reviews. How come the magazines haven't reviewed it ?

The Kef 5005 seem to get good ratings from members of the forum so am going to try and arrange a demo.

Anyone know best prices for Kef 5005 - all places seem to be £1200 ?

    AV

Most places quote £1200 for the 5005 but some throw in cable etc.

Scroll down forum main menu to AV hardware - general for the power buys.

Going to have a look myself to see what joe's offering :D
