I need help looking for a new pair of speakers.

I've just recently moved into a new flat so I wont be requiring any earth shattering sounds, therefore I would prefer the speakers produce a fare amount of bass (a standalone sub would be be far too bassy for where I live and also a waste of space and money)

the speakers will be mainly used for tv shows and occassionally dvds

I am looking for something in the £150 or below price range

Well... if you want ''earth shattering'' as you stated, you'll need P.A speakers and obviously a earth shattering amplifier to drive them. On the subject of what you'll use them for and the price range your talking about, I suggest you go to your nearest Richer Sounds store and you'll pick up a pair of quality floor-standing speakers for that price, Infact for 114.99 at www.hifibitz.co.uk you can get a pair of Wharfedale Diamond range floor-standers, which... for the money, is a very good deal indeed for the sound quality your going to get out of them. Obviously needing a quality amplifier to deliver the sound quality aswell.

    "Wont [sic] be requiring earth-shattering..."

If you can stretch a bit, I'd go for the Mission m33i, which is about £180 at the moment. I'd be sceptical of any large floorstander cheaper than that, although I have not heard the Wharfedales.

Second-hand is another option - try on eBay?

There are good deals to be had on Monitor Audio Silver S1 at the moment - they are rated at 45Hz to 30KHz +/- 3db, and give a good bass without being overblown. They are good enough to accomodate an amp/source upgrade in the future
