Whats the best plasma available at the moment? i'm looking for something between 2k - 3.5k 48" & High-Definition, preferably a panasonic.

Also i'm getting the xbox 360 when it comes out, are consoles safe to use on plasmas, do i need extra stuff?

    either TH42PV500, TH-50PV500 (June) or wait for the PHD8 42/50 (Sept/Oct)

The PV500 has everything built in, tuner, speakers, inputs etc.
The PHD's will be panels, no tuner, inputs etc but are considered to be more tweakable, you just buy the boards you need.

The PV500 will have HDMI which should be on the new xbox's, so should be a good choice for future proofing. I will be using my xbox with it, it should cause no problems.

Forgive me I’m a newbee. What’s the PHD8, is it a Panasonic or some sort of qualification?... Are the specifications the same for the37” PV500 which I am hoping to get?

Phd8 is panasonic. It is a panel only, does not come with a tuner or input boards. You will be able to fit the boards at an extra cost and in the configuration you want just like the pwd7. Hopefully released in september/october.
hope that clears it up a little for you. :)
