Help after todays re-tune

Hi guys,
I did the re-tune today and all the channels seem to be there, but there is a slight problem.
Channel 27 which is supposed to be ITV2+1 is now called (Unknown)
Channel 33 is also ITV2+1 but is called just simply ITV
FIVE is now on channel 800
ITV3 is now on channel 801
ITV4 is now on channel 802
There is a dublicate of FIVE on channel 804, but it is called (Unknown) instead of FIVE
A new channel has appeared at 803 called Rocks and Co.
After channel 33 all the channels go out of order e.g it goes 33, 89, 94, 34, 95, 307, etc

First of all this is annoying because it is not in the right order.
And secondly, I own a HUMAX 9300T PVR and I have heard that having channels in the 800s can mess up your schedualed recordings. It only went up to about channel 300 before the re-tune today.

Why has this retune messed everything up? Couldn't they have just left it how it was as it was working perfectly before today :(

Is there any way to get the channels back to normal? Thanks in advance :)

Hi

I think the retunes are to be carried out in the afternoon.

It is possible they have'nt finished the re-arranging of stations and MUX etc.

You re-scan too early.

Do a reset to factory defaults and start again.

ITV 2+1 is indeed now labelled ITV and is on channel 33 (pending its re-deployment as ITV 1 +1 at some future date).

I have a Humax PVR9200T (PVR) ... with a Sony Bravia which has built in Freeview.

I have retuned on both the Humax PVR and the Sony TV.

The Humax has identified ITV3 and ITV4 but shows no picture or sound. The Sony TV has picked ITV3 and ITV4 up correctly and shows sound and vision.
The channel numbers on the Humax are not in sequence either.

Is something wrong with my Humax box ?

I'm in Epsom, Surrey and retuned the Humax box at 12:30, 13:30 and 16:30 before I gave up and decided to appeal to AVForums ! As anticipated the Humax helpline is encountering unusually high volumes !

Thanks,

Chris

Retuned mine today, BBC1/2 have been inexplicably moved to 804/805 on my TV, they were replaced in the pecking order by BBC1/2 Scotland instead!!
nothing too much wrong there you might think but, my DVD recorder, wired to the same aerial, has everything in the "right" order!! How can this have happened, it never did this on the last two re-tune's we've done up here, any ideas?
Have done three re-tunes just to check and it is still the same, weird, why one and not the other?

Anyone retuning a Humax box needs to do a complete reset first and then let it do the auto tune, this should then work ok.

Guys,

I've now sorted my problems out .. in the unlikely event that anybody is as stupid as me here's the solution !

Do not just do a retune ... you MUST do a Factory Reset on the HUMAX this is the Default Settings in the Installation part of the Menu.

Once I'd done that the out of sequence problem and the missing picture and sound on ITV3 & 4 went away !
The bad news is that any recording schedule you have will disappear when the Default Settings routine is initated.

Yippeeee .....

Chris H

PS Don't listen to the HUMAX Helpdesk when they tell you how to do a Factory Reset because it's wrong ... the aeriel must be connected or else the tuner won't pick up the stations !

Your aerial may be picking up freeview channels from another transmitter which radiates earlier on the 22-69 spectrum than the transmitter that you normally receive pictures from

If you look at the freeview web site you may be able to see if your post code allows you to get pictures from more than one transmitter

The update may have increased transmitter power locally which has allowed some of your equipment to decide to tune to a transmitter away from the one you usaully receive your pictures from

Stick your post code into the freeview web site and see which transmitters provide pictures for you or post your post code here and someone will have a look

It's all a bit of a faff, ain't it?

OK I have done a "default settings" and the channels have now sorted themselves out.....almost.

Everything seems to be fine APART from:

1. There is channel 800 called (Unknown) which has the same programme schedule as FIVE but there is no picture or sound on it.

2. Channel 27 is now called (Unknown). It has the programme schedule of ITV2+1, but I get no picture or sound.

3. Channel 33 is called ITV but is actually ITV2+1 (with full picture and sound).

These are the only 3 problems that seem to be remaining and everything else seems to be in perfect working order. Does anyone know what might be causing these problems and how to fix them?

Cheers :)

I'm not sure you really need to do a factory re-set for Humax pvr's.

I don't know about newer machines but on my old 8000T I just went into "Edit Channel Lists", chose "Select All" and deleted the lot before doing a re-scan.

Edit:- you need to delete the radio stations separately as well before the re-scan.

You can do a factory re-set if you want but the point of using the delete channels/re-scan method is you don't then have to re-set all the other user preferences from scratch (apart from any timer recording schedules).

If you actually do this correctly, you should do a re-set *before* re-tuning on *any* type of Freeview STB/TV/PVR.

It is amazing the number of people I see moaning in various forums about how the re-tune has "screwed up" - when in reality its actually them who haven't followed the published instructions and put the kit (regardless of manufacturer)back to its defaults *before* they started the re-tune ...

800 series channels are usually used for either:-

a second transmitter radiating a lower strength signal already stored in your normal line up

or

signals stored for "red button" pictures, as in news channels multi pictures or "red button" sports coverage on BBC

Since the Freeview retune hasn't the Simpsons on channel 4 and channel 4+1 got the wrong aspect ratio? Isn't it supposed to be 4:3. It's filling the entire 16:9 screen and looks stretched.

I wholeheartedly agree, the instructions were quite clear to do a default settings/first time installation/factory reset.

Also, Channel 27 is supposed to just show the "we have moved" message, Channel 33 is supposed to be called ITV (its bizarre, but correct apparently). And the 800 channel is the old version of 5, which has been left with no LCN so that people who hven't retuned will see the "You need to retune" message. So these aren't problems at all, just not what some people were expecting.

I didnt know this so retuned my 8000T with some poor results , so I did a factory reset and retune which went fine and all ok after that

bear in mind that anything that comes in that cannot be sorted goes into the 800 range on this or similar machines

as long as ch5 is where it should be , and itv3 , itv4 and quest , you are probably ok

also bear in mind some ppl will lose some itv stations but gain ch5 , widely reported in the press !! ( relay stations apparently lose out )

I have just done my mothers and now the channels are in a right mess ,they are in no logical order at all bbc1 is at the highest channel 800 and something and itv1 is about 10 channels down from that, i expect to get some more phone calls from her.
I'm glad i have the dreambox ,a couple of drag and drops on the pc and all channels are where i want them within seconds.

I'm glad someone else noticed that. I thought I was imagining things!

Your dead right it is 961, anyway, just re-tuned for the "fourth" time late this afternoon and whatever the problem was it has now gone away as all channels TV/DVD are in the same order as each other!!
Have to say, picture quality has deteriorated a little since yesterday, all channels have a slightly fuzzy look to them now, all this to make space for a version of broadcasting no one has equipment to accept, (freeview that is!!), it can only happen here? :rotfl:
