Help a ps3 noob

I bought a PS3 yesterday with COD4 Game of the year edition.
Wow hasn't gaming come a long way since the original PS
My question is, I have the code to download extra maps, does this give me extra maps to play on single player mode or is it only for online play?

BTW Don't be put off if you get hammered a lot at the start you will get better, start to know the maps, get better weapons and then, this is when it gets good out smart the clever ***** and start to win. There is nothing as sweet as killing the clever sod who got you earlier.
