Well I've succumbed, I've been seduced by the Dark Side..... .....I placed my order last night for 2 (yes 2) SVS PB2-Plus. Why? Well, if you were at Event II a few weekends back and happened to spend anytime in PJ HiFi's new demo room (there is a picture of it in the Event II forum) and happened to experience their 2 rather large subs in action, you couldn't help but be moved (literally) by it. What really impressed me was the prodigious amounts of effortless bass that I felt rather than heard and yet the volume was by no means excessive. The subs were apparently run by 1,000w amps (that's each sub) and were set to one quarter volume. You notice I'm not mentioning the make, that's because I never actually managed to find out - so if anyone knows, please let me know. What really struck me though was that two subs at relatively low volumes produced a less strained deep, deep bass effect and in no way could they be localised, which, to my mind, is as it should be. Now this revelation to me, may be obvious and basic to most but it was a first for me. So, I made my mind up there and then to purchase a second Servo 15!! Errr, no I can't, they don't exist anymore in this country/planet/universe but you already new that! So what sub do I go for then? Well after a fortnights research reading all the long, in some cases very long, debates on which is the best sub, it appeared to me that SVS consistently produced the goods at a reasonable price. The common thread with most of the posts from buyers seems to follow a pattern: - concern over buying a sub from an internet only company without an audition - but having read other happy buyers reports, decide to take the 'gamble' - receive the sub and ecstatically report how chuffed they are ....so I'm doing the same! What do you think? Have I gone way over the top and demonstrated a criminal level of overkill? Or, as I believe, am I going to end up with a standard of bass to match the performance I 'felt' at PJ's, which will keep me smiling (and most probably have me rushing to the toilet halfway through a film) for years to come? For your information, you may be interested in this: - SVS offer a 5% discount if you buy two subs which brings the total for two PB2-Plus down from $2,398.00 to $2,278.10 (every bit helps) . So, even if you only wanted one, it could be worth going into a purchase with someone else. They may offer bigger discounts for even larger orders. - the Dollar to Sterling rate is very good at the moment. My purchase is going through at just under $1.69 to the £ - I'm being charged $350 to have them both delivered to my house. This is the only option for me. SVS do offer a lower charge for delivery to the airport but without a large van I don't see how I could pick them up. I believe that one sub (which is 120lbs) together with its packing materials weighs around 150lbs!!! - I've also ordered two of the 8 metre Bettercables that SVS offer, at $38.95 each which is a big reduction, even on Bettercables own internet prices (SVS offer 12 metre lengths for $48.95)! So, keep a look out in a few weeks time as I have a feeling that a Paradigm Servo 15 will be for sale on eBay!! 'the force will soon be strong in me, very strong'!!
