    firstly hello! :hiya:

I've been checking out these forums for the last few days, wish i'd had this resource last time i build my system!

I am also after some advise, i have a Denon AVR 2105, Toshiba SD 350, a hitachi 42PD 6600, i have some tannoy mercury m3's for fronts, m1's for rears and a tannoy 621 center speaker, no sub,

i've just brought the 2105 and the 350 but i would like to upgrade the speakers, i only have a budget of £600 - £700 at a stretch, my question is is it worth my upgrading some of the speakers now, say the 3 fronts and a sub, then later on add the rears or spend the money on a speaker package, my room is about 3 meters by 6 meters, any help, ideas are greatly appreciated!!

I'm a novice too so I'd probably get a package.
With £600 I'd be looking at the KEF 2005.2 or Mordaunt Short Genie.

Spend the majority of your budget on a sub, that's my advice. Be the best and most noticeable upgrade you could make.

You're not gonna get a speaker package for your budget that's gonna be much of an upgrade. Unless you ebay it. Or maybe go for one opf the heavily discounted packages knocking about like the acoustic energy aegis evo.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, what i'm worried about is that the smaller speakers arent going to be any better than my floorstanders or even worse, i just dont know how to scope it, has speaker technology come on that far in the last 8 years?

Thanks for the reply, i have been having a look on ebay, i'm finding it hard to decide whic would be better, some older kit at half the original price or newer kist at full retail? i mean would there be that much difference between the 2 (dependant on the kit in question obviously!)

Yeah, the sub is a good idea, my last sub died in a moving accident, maybe i should buy a new sub (around the £500 mark) and then save and change the speakers at a later date? any thoughts on that?

That's a nice bunch of kit! Especially the floorstanders, how much do they want for them? What's their phone number?? :p

Speakers haven't moved on that much mate, a speaker that cost £1600 a couple of years ago is still gonna be an awesome speaker now.

    KEF Reference Series Model Two

    KEF Reference series Model 100C

KEF Reference series TDM45B Active Subwoofer

KEF Reference series 65DS AV Dipole Surround Speakers

    DENON AVR3200 5.1 Surround Receiver / Amplifier

    DENON DVD-3000 DVD Player

There is also 40' of top quality Bi-Wire speaker cable, sub woofer interconnect and 2 digital optical leads. 1 for the DVD another for a SKY box or Video or Playstation? to get the best Audio, with an optical switch to allow up to 3 pieces of optical audio equipment to be attached to the amp.

the bloke paid £4,900 in 98, i paid £730

    Hi Ian,

I lived in a semi with paper for walls before the house i'm in now, so i never really got to use it the way i wanted, it was a long time ago that i purchased it and felt now i have the chance to use it i'll upgrade a little, also 1 of the rear speakers took a knock so i decided to see what i could do about upgrading, i wouldnt have minded keeping the fronts but wanted to get a better looking setup.

interested in what people think, good deal? i will be looking at selling the amp and dvd player then using the money to buy some rear surrounds (possibly the KEF Q85S??)

I am worried that my 2105 wont be powrful enough for the new speakers, any thoughts?

I don't know much about KEF kit but they do have a big following here. The Amp and DVD player are well and truly outdated and I wouldn't expect to get too much for them

    How did you find them?

I've been looking at KEF speakers on ebay for the past couple of days but I didn't see those...I must be rubbish at searching on ebay.

lucky for me! i would have had another bidder to contend with, i found them by searching for kef then filtering by category, i think i was lucky not to overlook them.

I normally do very generic searches and then filter by category, i find it yealds the best results, hope that helps you :smashin:
