Any more news on this yet?
    EDIT: out 3rd March 2015

    Launch trailer:

    HELLDIVERS - Launch Trailer | PS4, PS3, PS Vita

I'm hanging out for this, as the crossplay will allow everyone on my friend's list to meetup regardless of platform.
Plus i quite like the idea of a reimagined isometric shooter. It's meant to have procedurally generated maps, various co-op interactions, and friendly fire! This last might be a problem in games with randoms... and from the brief play i had at Eurogamer, it seemed very easy to off your teammates, but i like the idea of friendly fire to stop gaming-oddities like grenade spam, and poor trigger control and targeting.

    in brief:
    - it's 4 player co-op, with friendly fire always on.
    - any combination of 4 players from: couch/online, Vita, PS3, PS4 (eg: 2x PS4 on couch, 1x PS3, 1x Vita all together)
    - while isometric, it's pretty hardcore like a tactical shooter.
    - limited ammo and realistic clips (30 round clip with 12 bullets left -> reload = wasting 12 bullets).
    - drop pods bring in more ammo, turrets, exoskeletons, revive, heavy guns, etc
    - procedurally generated maps and missions
    - online global scenarios which change the overall difficulty up/down
There's probably more, but i can't remember right now.

As an aside to the mods: how is AVF going to handle cross-play games: where essentially it's the same game, playerbase, and discussion?
Do we have three separate topics, or auto-redirects to a single thread?

    Good man!

I'm not sure if i posted the last gameplay vid i saw:

    You Probably Won't Survive...

It discusses a lot of mechanics, and gives a very good feel of the game (although they're all noobs except the demo guy).

    in brief though:

    - it's 4 player co-op, with friendly fire always on.
    - any combination of 4 players from: couch/online, Vita, PS3, PS4 (eg: 2x PS4 on couch, 1x PS3, 1x Vita all together).

Like the look of this. Probably best with local co-op (what game isn't? ) but be good to hook up with some mates on cross play. Friendly fire ftw!

Got a bit excited when I saw Gauntlet but its only for the PC master race :( One thing I did note from that article is that all the dungeons are procedurally generated, which seems to be the biggest fashion in gaming since the colour brown. Am not convinced that its the best thing for all games adopting this approach though. I enjoyed Spelunky but haven't been convinced by many other games that work this way (that I can think of).

Which is why I won't be getting it.

I was really looking forward to this as a stop gap until the next Killzone Liberation arrives, until I noticed this on the blog.

Each to their own of course, but I'm just not a fan of random maps - which is basically a translation for the latest buzzword that is 'Procedurally Generated Environments'.

In my personal experience, my success (and failure) in completing games, or even levels in games, is down to trial and error after memorising maps, enemy locations etc. etc. Having different locales every time you play just doesn't appeal to me and could potentially become frustrating.

Shame as I think it 'looks' great. :/

Not all procedurally generated games don't pull it off well bro.

lol Det you know I ain't a fan of them! :D

Especially that Don't Starve thing you love pmsl.

Edit: Heck I may just give it a go for the multiplayer - it's a rarity to be able to play a shooter that isn't set in the first-person so beggars can't be choosers!

Well, will be investing in another controller at least, Helldivers, Diablo 3, new Guardian of Light, Magika 2 and with the indies already on the store, Couch multiplayer is making a bit of a comeback. Loved the Likes of Baldurs Gate and Hunter the reckoning back in the day, was a bit of a drought with PS3, but will be spoilt for choice soon. If they're all online multiplayer too, double bonus!

It always did i think, the devs talked about the backstory before, and "democracy" being kinda totalitarian and xenophobic.
Some of their blog posts have been in theme of government propaganda too.

Given their take on mages in Magicka, i don't think they are one of those poo-nosed serious developers, who think it's all art and so on ;)

I noticed the comments were hoping it would be PS+, but I suspect if it is PS+ fodder, it would be more like Transition and go + 6 months down the line.

Also Sony would probably have announced it as such. I'd be highly surprised if it was PS+, so i hope it reviews well, and people cough up and buy it.

Except a full unbiased* Stinja "review"** coming soon after release.

    * may be highly biased
** note: a score may or may not be associated with this, and as always, i do not allow Metacritic to use my scores

Arrowhead have put up a FAQ with common questions: HELLDIVERS Q&A | Arrowhead

Interestingly they list "Cross-chat" as a feature, as getting comms between PS4 and Vita has involved hoop-jumping in the past.

    Release(?) Vita gameplay:

    Helldivers Gameplay |PSVITA|

Losing a lot of detail/textures, but gameplay seems intact. Also interesting that playing solo seems to have an auto revive, instead of failing the mission straight out - this might be related to the very early missions though.

Hmmm most reviews are for the PS4 version :(

Just one so far for the Vita, but it reads much the same. Great co-op fun, no real story, quibbles about sameness of levels.

Helldivers review – I lost my heart to a Starship Trooper | Metro News

EDIT: other reviews give the Vita version a mention. General gist is mechanics are identical, just visually it's got a downgrade - which is not unexpected.
