Flying into LHR later this week, need to travel to Watford.
Anyone local to there suggest the best way?
Bus 724, get off at Watford station then taxi to final destination within Watford?

I wouldn't risk a bus with the potential for the M25 to grind to a halt. Heathrow express to Paddington & then on to Watford would be my choice. If this is the car purchase get them to collect you from the station.

The price I got the car for, I'll be lucky if there's enough fuel in the thing to take me to a petrol station.
Prefer to make my own way there than inane conversation with a driver, TBH.

I was assuming that the bus uses the M25 but having had a look at the route, it doesn't. If it can really achieve the quoted timetable schedule of 52 mins it may well be worth considering, but I'd expect the train to be quicker. If you're driving straight back I'm not sure if a few minutes gained are priceless or negligible in the overall journey!

Any idea what taxi fares are like in that area?
I'm assuming a cab direct from LHR to Watford will be a mini-mortgage?

Just stuck this in google and seems about £50.

Probably not bad considering there will be a cost no matter how you travel. You can get a tube straight into London, but it will take an age. Then you've got to get to watford.

Probably nothing compared to flying into the UK!

Minicabit quotes anything from £40 upwards. Maybe see if you can find a firm in Watford specialising in airport runs that can maybe do you a deal on their return trip that would otherwise be empty?

Cheers, Croc
£28 sounds reasonable, I reckon I'll go with that.

I have picked up a load of fares Watford to or from Heathrow (hackney cab). Terminals 1,2,3 and 4 are £45 and Terminal 5 is £50. Good luck if you can get it for £28. Me nor any of my colleagues would bother for that price. Don't forget the tip lol.

My first ever experience of rip-off Britain was when I arrived at Heathrow with my parents and asked a black cab how much he's charge to take us to Datchet.
£65!!!!!!....in 1990!!!! We politely declined. My mum still tells that story when people talk about the cost of things.
Used to cost me £8 to and from the airport with a local Slough firm.

I have never had a customer complain about or even challenge the prices I quoted above and every one has been kind enough to give me a generous tip. Rich south-east you see and good service.

I'd avoid minicabs, they're cheap for a reason.
Unless you like traveling in old bangers, driven by someone using a sat nav who has only been in the country 5 minutes.

So you don't think that was taking the piss? How much would you charge now for the same journey (T1-Datchet)?

Sorry but I was quoting prices for Watford as the OP asked. In your case in 1990 I totally agree with you. For what it's worth I wouldn't quote for Datchet as I am a Watford area cab.

Ahh I see, when you quoted my post I thought you were implying it was a fair price.

Hi,

The 724 Bus route looks pretty good as it is a direct single journey & avoid the M25. Another cheap option which may take longer is a Bus 140 from Heathrow to Harrow Bus Station & then a Bus 258 direct to Watford Junction - should cost £5 max for both legs.

Suave!

Or you could get the 140 to harrow and wealdstone station (br) and get the fast train to Watford.

Hi,

Yes, good call - that too is another option - there are two fast trains an hour I believe and the normal speed trains as well which have a few stops before reaching Watford High St or Watford Junction.

Suave!

Wealdstone?
Where the famous Wealdstone raider comes from?
You wun'sum?.....I'll give it ya....!

The 724 bus stops at Garston which is basically North Watford. You can walk from there and save yourself even more money. The weather forecast is good. Lol.

Have a chat with @captainarchive cousin, he may be in the area and he will do it gratis.
