Is AVF going to have a presence at the Heathrow Show later this month?
Either official with Stuart or perhaps just a friendly get-together. :)

I may be planning to go on the Saturday, however that’s not confirmed yet. I want to see Sim 2’s C3X in action!

It's this weekend coming. I can't really be bothered to go though as there aren't many exhibitors that I'm interested in seeing. I hope to make the What Hifi show whenever that is. :)

Unfortunately, I won't be going either. I went last year and thoroughly enjoyed it (more so than the What Hi-Fi show anyway!) I'll be going to the Property Investor show tomorrow yesterday in Excel, hope to pick up a few tips! ;)

    Yo

I popped in today, almost zero av presence. The big hd demo with new Sim wasnt on today.
Normally I love the show and wander around for hours, but today less than an hour.

I am going on Sunday. Missed last years so I am looking forward to this one.
I am not entirely surprised that there is not much "AV presence" there.
The Hi-Fi News magazine that is linked to this show seems to be shying away from AV stuff.
There are numerous letters from readers asking them to concentrate on Hi-Fi after all that is the title and was always something they concentrated on.
I think a while back they felt that they had to cater for AV articles else they might lose sales.

I know this may have nothing to do with the reason for the lack of AV stuff but the previous times there never was a huge range of AV products.
Personally I hope there is loads of ridiculously expensive Hi-Fi that you can just drool over.

Keep AV stuff to Home Entertainment show and Home Living shows. ;) Even though the official title of the show is "Hi-Fi & Home Entertainment Show"

I think that a dedicated hifi show is definitely a good idea, similarly a dedicated AV show wouldn't go amiss but obviously the 2 are closely linked.

FYI we are located in the Marlborough Suite opposite the bar
As we are not officially there in our own right there is no reference to SIM2 in the show guide but if you are coming in on Sunday pop in and see the new C3X in the Bada Demo theatre at the Renaissance.

Also you can see it at Paul Miller's demo in the Park Inn, although the screen is rather too large for my likeing.

Also we won the best Projector award

Nice one Alan! I would have really liked to have seen the new C3X in action - but can't make it to the show this year. Will you have any presence at the What Hi-Fi show in November?

I popped in yesterday and had a look at both Sim2 demos. I'd agree the 13.5ft screen didn't do Sim any favours. Screendoor was very visable, the pixel structure glaringly bad in bright sky scenes. Black levels were reasonable and colours vivid, though reds did look a little orange. No rainbows which I could make out.
1080P panel should address most problems.

Impressed with all of you using HTPC solutions. No crashes while I was there! :D

You won the best projector award! I thought the Sims were the only Pj's on demo

Other than that, heard some cracking speakers from a small Far Eastern company called Nbein or something like that, a very good setup from Usher (awesome demo cd), picked up another cd by some acapella band singing U2 songs and got a great deal on an Isotek GII MiniSub.

All in all an interesting few hours!
If I was into two channel audio DACs played using high-end turntables, I would have been in HiFi Nirvana! Shame I'm not :D

The screen size was Paul Miller's choice not ours, of course you would see pixel structure at that viewing distance, I would be concerned if you didn't. If you saw our demo in the Bada Theatre then things were very different.

The colour gamut of the C3X exceeds the SMPTE/EBU standard.

And the simple reason why you didn't see any rainbow effect is because the C3X is a three chip dlp projector

    I'd agree.

The 13.5 foot screen was far to big. didn't show the projector off to its best. Also, the hi-def clips suffered from quite a bit of stuttering, particularly the racing cars & shark tale clips. Not a fault of the projector of course, or even particularly the PC. I would think it was just theatertek. It seems to be impossible to stop it stuttering.

The Sim projector in the upstairs room (Kef I think) looked great. Plenty of detail in the clip I saw, (Doobie brothers concert) although the video processing did trip up a couple of times I don't think many people would notice, exept fussy buggers like me!

I won't be trading my CRT just yet, but in another few years when its fit for the skip and prices & spec have levelled out I think the 3 chips will be the way to go.

    Then again, who knows

    Rob.

    Hi,

I visited the Heathrow show on Sunday. Unfortunately, I missed the SIM but I did notice that Absolute Sounds had the Theta Digital 'Valis' av-processor on static display. I didn't get a chance to ask about it but it looks like it might be a cheaper version of the Casablanca.

It's true, I've been reading about SED technology with great enthusiasm recently. Seems like a leap from current flat-panels (eben though it is still quite far off!)
