Headsets, but what about headphones?

When I first read the controllers had a plug for headsets, I thought it read headphones, not headsets. I thought it would be possible for each player to use this as their own audio source. Not just for comms but full stereo.

For years I've thought it would be great for offline multi-play to be able to play against people with out hearing their 'noise', with each wearing their own headphones. Great for driving and FPS play. Was a little disappointed when I found out the truth.

Is this a technical possibility for the 360 down the road, or is bandwith/processor limitations going to be a problem?

I believe its possible in theory, and especially now that the 360 does not have a dedicated audio processor, and has been since the xbox, but no one has tried to implement it.
