Just to add, or correct, a little of the info on that link....

Having looked at the 'Network' site: link:

Rrp: £39.99 (it's gonna be less online, ok?)

    Series 1 is 13 episodes

Release date tbn (I've seen rumours of late September).

Network have something of a reputation of slipping release dates, but they turn up in the end!

'Special Branch' and the Complete Ripping Yarns are both listed. May take a while, but anticipation can be sweet!

Shame they couldn't have remastered them in anamorphic widescreen like the previous 3 special editions released - I think they did a pretty good job on them. 5.1 sound is a welcome improvement though. Can't wait for Ripping Yarns, too! :smashin:

The original aspect ratio was 4:3, why would they be better in widescreen?

Lets say this it's not in widescreen , but it's getting released
which is great , also with 5.1 sound

Let hope there is a few extra's as well , well we can hope

    >Yes they would be better in Widescreen

No, they wouldn't. The Sweeney's correct aspect ratio is 4:3 or 1.33:1. Freemantle's 16:9 efforts were simply a misguided attempt to market the series for those with widescreen sets.

By cropping the image top and bottom in order to produce a 16:9 or 1.78:1 picture they ended up cutting off the tops of people's heads - something quite noticeable whenever a close-up shot was used.

But when Network's version is released it will feature the CORRECT aspect ratio, a digitally restored image, the original Thames logo at the start of each episode plus the 'end of part one/part two' advert break bumpers.

The 5.1 track has been mixed from the seperate sound elements - the dialogue track, the sound effects track and the music track - so expect a genuine surround sound presentation, not just a mono track spread across the soundstage.

The extras have still to be finalised but you're looking at a 'Making Of' documentary, an isolated music score, Series One gag reel and an Interview with Dennis Waterman (and I wouldn't be at all surprised if there's an audio commentary or two in there as well).

In short, it's going to be one of the best tv series releases the market has yet seen. Don't believe me? Just wait and see!

Series 1 now up for order at PLAY247, release date 29/9.

Not much of a saving at £35.99 though, could be less elsewhere.

EDIT £29.99 at Amazon, free postage.

The HMV website is currently advertising The Sweeney - Complete Series One for the remarkably low price of £19.99!

    I wonder how long that'll last?

    Hi,

Got my bargain set from HMV today, too. Great packaging with detailed liner notes in each DVD case. Only had time to watch the first episode "Ringer" and was pretty impressed - very good picture and 5.1 sound. Now to get through the other 10 hours of stuff...

Now to look out for the cheapest price. No mention on hmv site yet - where they did a very cheap pre-order for the 1st series (for a time).

I'm sure the HMV price was a mistake - which at least they honoured for pre-corrected orders.

Amazon looks like the cheapest so far, as it retails over their free shipping threshold price.
