We are finally going to get to see the Simpsons in Britain tonight:

    Friday 09, 20:00, Sky One

The Regina Monologues: Cult animated series. The Simpsons take a holiday in London, where Homer becomes confused by Prime Minister Tony Blair and then crashes into the Queen's horse-drawn carriage while attempting to navigate a roundabout. With the guest voices of Tony Blair, JK Rowling, Ian McKellen and Frasier's Jane Leeves.

Perhaps it'll keep Tony Blair in office and increase his popularity...

I've been waiting for this episode since I heard about it last november/december time.

Will look forward to it :D.

Me too. I read recently that the Queen was approached to take part in the episode as herself, but she declined. The writer suggested it may have been a lost oppertunity: we all know how hard the Queen has been trying to "get in touch with the commoners" lately. :D

Tonight her voice will instead be played by an actor.

That's unfortunate. My opinion of her would have actually improved were she to partake in the episode - especially if her involvement was funny .

I'm a big fan of the Simpsons and have already managed to see this episode but I wasn't overly impressed. It was very stereotypical and slightly insulting. I think the Guardian newspaper sum it up well; there's no such thing as a bad episode of the Simpsons but this isn't their finest hour.

Homer locked up in the Tower of London, "Marge, whatever you do don't buy any video tapes here because they won't play in our VCR back home!!!" :rotfl:

I thought it was pretty good - and I certainly din't find it insulting. I don't see how people can be surprised that it was "stereotypical", I mean EVERYTHING in the Simpsons is Steretypical - that's the point!
I thought they were quite generous to us actually. I found it quite reverential - the way they treat the French/Germans/Canadians is really insulting! "And that Monkey problem in Brazil isn't getting any better!" :rotfl:

I disagree with the Guardian Quote though - there are plenty of bad Simpsons episodes, most of which were made in the last four years... This epsidoe was much better than most recent ones anyway.

It was supposed to be stereotypical. The writers discussed this recently and they were attempting to poke fun at the way Americans see Britain & British culture.

As a whole the episode wasn't that brilliant, but I guess is memorable for its contents.

Obviously. You have to wonder how anybody could not figure this out after the "establishing shot" of a dozen or so Mary Poppinses all flying around the Houses Of Parliament.

I loved Homer's line "We saved your asses in Vietnam!" :smashin:
