Headphones repair advice (internal mic on QC35s)

hey guys, I've got some Bose QC35s (first gen) in which the mic suddenly stopped working. It just doesn't pick up any sound which is annoying because I've become very accustomed to making hands-free calls on it
I've tried searching online to identify the problem or find a fix but no joy, and I've even contacted one of the few companies that claims to repair these things with no reply. The other repairers I found didn't feel me with confidence (e.g. eBay hobbyists)
Does anyone have any tips to find out what's wrong and how I can go about getting it fixed - and perhaps what I should expect to pay? thanks

I ended up buying an obscenely cheap pair of new Mk IIs and if I sell mine for a reduced price to someone not fussed about the mic, it cuts the hassle of getting a fix and maybe ends up costing me about the same
