Headphones recommendations

Hi all,

Looking to buy - over the ear, open, headphones.

My budget is £250ish

They will be replacing my faulty Beyer Dynamic DT 880

My amp is a Marantz PM-66SE, and I will be using the Zen Can headphone amp.

I mainly listen to modern jazz, jazz funk.

I can only recommend Phillips x2's as that is what I have for open back. Fantastic headphone. However the x3 is supposed to be even better and has the option of balanced connection which would suit the zen can.

My go to is using WhatHifi's best buy list for headphones and going from there.

I like an easy and musical sound so I got the Momentum 2.0 over ear headphones and they cost me £200 (ish) in 2017.

For your budget, I might say get the Grado SR325e or DT 900 Pro X. If you want wireless noise cancelling, get the Sony MX4.

If you loved your DT880, get the DT 900 Pro X.

I'm enjoying HiFiMan HE-400se with my Zen setup. Have you heard any planars before?

The X3’s aren’t generally regarded as better than the X2’s. In fact, most serious reviews state that they look nice but the sound signature is a step backwards. Less flat and natural sounding.
