okay so I had a spare receiver sitting around (Sony STR-K750P) because I replaced it with a HDMI one, so instead of getting an amp I'd rather connect my headphones to the receiver so I can game on my ps3. I have the ps3 connected to the TV via HDMI and to the receiver using the standard RCA cables (I can also get an optical cable if results are better) I went to sound settings on PS3 and made it output through the rca cables. On the receiver I'm using DOLBY PL by clicking on the A.F.D. button (theres also a 2CH, Movie and Music button). The problem is I'm hearing a crackling sound when i play COD. any suggestions?

also is it just a better options to skip the receiver completely and plug the RCA cables into a headphone adapter?
