There is a documentary on at 9 tonight on BBC1 on Genghis Khan, hopefully this will be as good as the 4 part documentary they did a few years ago which was totaly fascinating and informative about him.

I'm very into ancient and medieaval history and always considered Genghis Khan and the Mongol army and as one of the finest military forces. The tactics they developed and used with great effect are used in todays modern armies.

What if he had not died. Would his empire have stretched from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts?

Tidy little proggie, that - v nice indeed.
Mind u, having to constantly wrestle the remote from the girlf for fear of Discovery Animal Planet action was quite a campaign in itself....

It was good I thought. Great picture quality as well. It just seemed to be lacking in details of the quests etc. Maybe this is becasue the records are not that detailed? Or is it because of trying to fit the whole life of this man into one hour?

    Sorry Tejstar,

No mention in the Radio Times of a repeat of this on any of the BBC programmes.

A pity you missed it, extremely interesting, I should have hated to have lived in those times; the word, Barbarians, comes to mind when despatching their enemies! Such a brilliant idea of Ghengis Khan to slaughter all his opponents and their families unless they surrendered, when they were left in peace, or coerced to join his army.

Doubtless it will be shown at a later date.

I don't know if anyone here routinely watches programmes with the subtitles on, but the subtitles for this programme were fascinating. They were obviously based on a slightly earlier edit than the one which was actually being broadcast, so, periodically, you would have anything up to a couple of sentences appearing in the titles with no corresponding voice saying anything.
