We may or may not get the quality of the WMV-HD clips you downloaded from Sky's HDTV service. It will depend on the quality of the sources used, and the bitrates used for transmissions. The treatment of Sky One doesn't give us much hope, nor do Fox's 720p broadcasts (eventually!) in the US, which received criticism for their low bitrates. Note also that many of those clips were from IMAX sources, which will be higher quality than most, if not all, source material broadcast on Sky.

However, it is also possible that the bitrates used will be reasonable. After all, Sky's existing premium channels are transmitted at higher bitrates than standard channels. As the service will be sold on its picture quality, Sky will surely have an incentive to use decent bitrates for the service.

The real answer is we don't know, as there have not yet been any transmissions. Ask Sky themselves if you're interested in high quality broadcasts! However, it is important to mention that if the resolution of your display is 852x480, you are not even seeing the full vertical resolution of PAL. Although you will benefit from the small increase in horizontal resolution of 720p on your display, the increase in picture quality as seen on your display may be due to higher quality source material and/or high bitrates, rather than the increase in resolution of HDTV.

So you had NERO convert a wmv/vc9 encoded HD spec video stream to a mpeg2 coded video at DVD spec to demo HD?

    Interesting:)

    Few minutes later.........

Just had a thought, you may have a divx DVD player so converted it to that format at the same resolution:)

Standard Divx players can t play HD divx neither wmv/hd.
The best you can do is to use canopus procoder to convert wmvhd to mpeg2 at the maximum bitrate (9700) but at lower resolution 720x576 so it can play on your standard dvd player.
I can tell you for sure that with such a high bitrate you DO NOT loose much detail, even with an SD resolution.
I ve tried playing these with my pio dv575 on my pio 435HDE and i m very impressed with the results. :smashin:
The picture quality you get is ASTONISHING
