One of my HDMI cables has a label on it that says HDMI With Ethernet.

I'm just using it as a regular HDMI cable, and I'm pretty sure that none of my AV equipment supports Ethernet over HDMI, but I'm curious to know what kind of equipment can make use of this feature, and how would you use it?

For example, could you connect a games console and a smart TV together and share the internet connection so you only need one cable?

The idea is that it saves some Ethernet cables but very few TVs and AV receivers use it let alone Blu-ray players etc.
You can look up the features on your equipment to see if any support it.

What equipment uses it?

My TV isn't a smart TV, my Amp is 5 years old, and I don't think that a Virgin Media STB would support it. I'm more curious than anything.

In that case don't bother about it.
It requires both ends of the connection need to support it.
Frankly it was a nice idea but never really caught on.

There has been a number of nice ideas such as universal remote, signalling between equipment using CEC, that never took off.
