i might be better off in the cables but ill try here first.

my tv has dvi and no hdmi, would i be right in thinking i can get a hdmi to dvi converter? alas loosing the sound to tv, is there another way to then get sound to tv too? ie a converter that splits it to dvi and sound to rca or phono (my dvi input has sound in via mini phono or rca) so the mrs doesnt have to use the amp all the time?

You have probably got rca stereo inputs on your tv so just take the rca output from the sky box for stereo sound and use either a hdmi-dvi convertor or lead for video

yeah was thinking that, then connect via optical to amp, then prob component to av amp too.
can the sky box output on both component and hdmi at once?
ie if i do split screen on my tv one side the hdmi, the other component? then i can see which connection suits my tv better for when i watch movies etc
