do you lose any video quality by using a converter for hdmi to dvi .

the reason i ask is im looking at the arcam dvds and the later one comes with hdmi not dvi (my screen has dvi only)

or just use progressive , its just that i already have the dvi cable and an adapter is probably cheaper than a new cable

    many thanks

It all depends on what DVI input your screen accepts. HDMI is a video standard, DVI can either be DVI-PC or DVI-video standard. If your screen expects DVI-PC standard and you give it HDMI or video standard, your going to suffer loss of dynamic range. Also, DVI is 8 bit RGB, HDMI supports this plus additional formats, such as 10 bit word length. So you are limited by the lowest common denominator, ie DVI. But otherwise, there is no conversion between HDMI and DVI that will lead to a loss in quality.
