HDMI to DVI(Pio to Hitachi)

    Am I right to think that with the Pioneer 868, using the HDMI output I could go in on the DVI input on Hitachis 42PMA500e ?

    Yes as long as the input of the Hitachi is HDCP compliant. Note that a DVI / HDCP connection does not support audio. This is not a problem as I assume you will be using a dedicated surround sound system. You will need a DVI - HDMI lead. I have a 2m lead available. PM me if interested.
