HDMI Repeater and ARC Issue

I have just bought a KSRplayer HDMI Repeater as I was having HDCP issues with my 20m cable running from my Sony STR-DN1040 amp to my Sony 55XD9305 TV.

2160P 3D 4K HDMI Signal Repeater Extender Booster Adapter Over Signal HDTV 60m--Spy Bug Cell TV Video Audio Electronics & Gadgets

The repeater is at the TV end of the cable and immediately fixed issues such as having no picture with blurays. However, I now appear to get no sound from the TV via ARC anymore. I am definitely using the right HDMI port on the TV and having looked closer at the details of the repeater, nowhere does it mention ARC.... Can I assume this is what is breaking ARC and if so, can anyone recommend a repeater that supports HDMI 2.0a, HDCP2.2 and ARC?

Thanks

I know this a very old thread, but I’ve recently hit exactly the same. I’ve tried to completely different types of HDMI Repeater (One passive and one active with a 5v power input).

They both stop sound being sent from the TV via HDMI ARC to my AVR.

Looks like this is a common problem, but seems to be very little information on the topic.

James.

4K UHD with HDR capable Extender devices with ARC support are pretty specialised - the lower cost units will offer support for ARC to Optical Out and a few units will support ARC 'passthru' via HDMI on a dedicated HDMI Audio Output.

ARC to Optical support - HDfury Integral² - The Media Factory

ARC HDMI Passthru support - https://tmfsolutions.co.uk/product/hdfury-vertex²/

If your TV is close to your AVR it may be simpler/less costly to use the TV Optical Out to the AVR!

Replacing your TV to AVR HDMI cable is another option - if that is practical for you.

Joe,

Thanks for the links to other HDMI repeaters, and for the information provided.

I do have an Optical (Toslink) cable installed. It will pass Dolby Digital from the TV to my AVR, but not Dolby Atmos.

I’m currently using a high quality 5 metre HDMI cable (Profigold), purchased in 2012. It’ll do everything perfectly up to and including 2160p 60Hz, 12 bit HDR at 4:2:0, but 4:2:2 introduces red sparkles.

I can force 4:2:0 from my Oppo 203 and XBOX One X. ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’ is the only disc where there is a problem and this is fixed by forcing 4:2:0.

So it’s really only an issue with my Amazon FireTV stick, because NetFlix is always 60Hz, and Dolby Vision pushes it over the edge - but seeing as I can use the NetFlix on the TV (which works perfectly), it’s just me been a perfectionist!

I’ve already purchased a UGreen 5 metre HDMI fibre hybrid cable, but it will be months before I can get it installed - my cables are buried in the wall, and it’s not going to be a quick or easy job to redo it all.

I though the HDMI repeater may have been a quick fix, but I’ll wait until I get the new cable installed.

James.

Try and install your next cable in a conduit.

Are you able to test that ARC works with the new cable?

Joe,

Due to the corners the cable has to go around (there a fireplace in the way), it's very difficult to pull, even in a conduit. However, the new replacement hybrid cable is much thinner, so might work a little better.

Yes, I have the cable and have tested with ARC.

I was going to buy a Ugreen hybrid fibre HDMI cable as I already have a pair of 10 metre cables in my home cinema room (they are excellent), but Ugreen don't do a 5 metre cable, so I bought at 5 metre Atzebe Fibre optic HDMI cable (£37.39 from Amazon). It works perfectly and passes TV audio back to my Denon AVR via ARC. Fully tested it with Dolby Vision / Dolby Atmos, 2160p 60Hz, 12 bit HDR 4:2:2 video - no issues.

Thanks & regards,
James.
