Answered HDMI output to VGA monitor error

Novice Member
Hi All,

My name is Alejandro Tejada and this is my first post
in this forum.

I want to learn why a HDMI to VGA converter fails with
LCD VGA monitors but works fine with CRT VGA monitors.
Why does it fails? Are not VGA video signal generation
exactly the same signals for all VGA monitors?

After connecting a Micca Speck G2 via HDMI output:

using this HDMI to VGA converter:
Agiler USA

into the VGA port of this Dell 1505fp LCD monitor (VGA/DVI):
Dell 1505FP 15" Flat Panel LCD Monitor (3-Yr Warranty) Specs - CNET

the LCD Monitor displays this error:
1: Analog Input
Cannot Display This Video Mode

Notice that this Dell Monitor have a DVI input, but
connecting the HDMI output of Micca Speck G2
to this DVI port (using a HDMI to DVI cable)
does not works either. Testing with others LCD
Monitors results in a black screen or just
entering in "sleep mode".

I know that Agiler Converter works fine because
every CRT VGA Monitors connected functions

Thanks in advance!

You may need to change the output resolution and refresh rate of the Agiler converter, to something that the monitor can cope with. That error is usually displayed by the monitor itself, when it is being fed a signal structure it cannot handle.

You are right! After connecting a Roku, I found that this monitor only could receive 480p but Micca Speck G2 only could output 720p or 1080p (although an output of 480i/p is among Micca's specifications).

If I find how to select an output of 480p from this Micca Speck G2 then it could work.

Thanks again for your answer!
