Just wondering is HDMI or Optical sound better for game consols XBOX One and PS4?

Is there any difference, do you lose anything by using Optical? I am asking as I want to disconnect my PS4/XB1 from my Denon AVRX2200 and have them on their own HDMI so I can use Game Mode exclusively on those ports. But it would mean going Optical, but if I lose quality I may pass.

Optical can't passthrough Dolby Truehd, DTS-MA or Atmos. Only usual 5.1 sound.
For games I assume, that this is not a problem, but in movies may be. Optical 5.1 sound is still very good, no problem. You probably don't hear the difference...

On today's consoles, that's just not true. There are games that run in 7.1 in Xbox, and Atmos from the PC. You entirely want HDMI as your output for audio, no questions asked.
