HDMI or Optical cable Help?

Hi

I'm sure that this is a really basic question but can someone please advise. I have recently bought a Onkyo 22HDX 2.1 system and want to make sure I've got it set up correctly for sound and picture quality. I have a sky HD and sony Sony BDP-S370 blu ray both connected by HDMI to the Onkyo which is then connected to the my Panasinic G10 via HDMI. Should I be using an optical cable instead of the HDMI to obtain the best sound? If so do i need an optical from both HD box and blu ray and another from the onkyo to the TV?

Optical on the Sky box because it doesn't output surround sound on HDMI.
HDMI on the Sony, that works fine.

Don't spend silly money on HDMI cables as they are digital cables and you will see no difference in quality with expensive ones. That being said if the cable construction looks cheap, then walk away. Decent 1m HDMI cables can be had for around a fiver and will give you no issues.

I'm no expert on this but if you use hdmi from the freeview to the onkyo and then hdmi from the onkyo to the tv you should have any problems. Just make sure that you have the onkyo set on the right input channel
