    "The ultimate digital connection"? Hmm...

Got my new PV500 last week, hooked it up to my Samsung HD850...
First impressions - great picture using the dvd's built in scaler...but...
on some films I get occasional red flashes acros the screen, and it just went mental during the underwater scene in "Steve Zissou"

Is this a problem with hdmi? Is it because the Samsung is cheap and not up to the job?

Any opinions before I throw the Samsung out and go back to me trusty old DV88?

Sounds like a bad cable... get a decent (though not too expensive) HDMI cable...

Can you 'repeat' the flashes at the same point on the disc and what happens if you set the player to output a 'straight' (no up scaling) signal?

    Best regards

Cheap HDMI players are rubbish at scaling video as you are experiencing and cause all sorts of problems!

You would be better getting a decent component output DVD player until the proper HDMI equipment arrives on the shelves!
