There are no technological advances in cables.
The cable spec remains the same.

The numbers, HDMI 1.x, 2.x etc. Refer to chipsets only and anyone using them to sell cables is being dishonest and breaking hdmi.org rules.

Note the first line of text here
HDMI :: Manufacturer :: Trademark and Logo

These logos are the only thing that matters with regard to cables, if a product doesnt have them then they are not official and cant be trusted.
Anything else in a sales add is nonsense designed to mislead...
HDMI :: Manufacturer :: HDMI 1.4 :: Finding the Right Cable

Try the ones you have first, chances are they will be fine.
In the unlikely event they are not, shop using the cable guidelines above and look for the logo, ignore all other claims about the product, they will be lies.

Thankyou for reply andy,
Tells me all I need to know about hdmi cables:smashin:

How long is your cable?

Joe
2m from avr at present, but will be able to use a shorter cable as initially the uhd player will go straight to the tv.
