DVI-D carries no audio at all.

You will have to connect by another method for audio.

    HDMI-HDMI does carry sound.
2.0 in its "HDMI 1.0" configuration and 5.1 in its 2.0 configuration. If you have an HDMI amp, you can get 5.1 by conecting your DVD player by HDMI to your amp.

What you cant do is conect it to your TV and expect it to give you sound through the TV speakers.

A DVi cable will only give a digital picture and never any sound.
So it can only be conected to a display.

If you want sound from your DVD player then use a coaxial, optical or regular stereo cables (phonos)
