hdmi / dvi conversion

    Ive seen cable converters for hdmi to dvi, will i see any loss in quality? my plasma hasn't got a hdmi socket but has got dvi (samsung).

    There's no quality issue, but you might not see a picture, I don't think your screen handles 50Hz digital signals, so you'll see nothing from a PAL disc and HDMI player.

    How do i find out if it will work?
    I read in the manual that it is DVI-D but doesn't say anything about frequency

    Try the samsung web site, I'll have a quick look, I'll know what to look for.

    What a surprise, the page won't load! That's why I don't sell samsung.

    My understanding is that HDMI has the same picture quality as DVI.
    Converting DVI to HDMI (or vice versa) will see no difference in picture quality.

    HOWEVER, HDMI contains audio data as well. DVI is video-only.

    Also check that ports are HDCP compliant to display video signals which my be copy-protected.
