    Hi
I have got a samsung LE40A656 currently connnected to by sony laptop with a vga to vga cable.

Is there a point to get a hdmi converter?

As I heard you will lose the sounds and also since I have only got vga connection on my laptop, does that means the HDMI cable makes no difference than using a VGA cable?

As you already have a vga input on your TV and vga output in your laptop, you will gain nothing converting to HDMI.

Convertors are usually used to get round the problem of not having the appropriate input, they are not used to improve quality (in fact they may even reduce it).

VGA doesn't carry audio anyway, so there would be no sound to lose, if you used a convertor.

Thanks I guess I will just stick to my VGA and audio cable then, now I understand why others said there is no sound using a hdmi to vga convertor.
